T-Shirt Printing In Brooklyn: Construction Companies
If you are a screen printer, work for a screen printing company, or looking to get into the t-shirt printing field I would defiantly advise you to target some construction companies. Gaining a customer who has a company in the construction, plumbing, electric, or even pest control field is in fact gaining a repeating customer – They just keep ordering. Also, when they order, the t-shirts and hoodies they design are so simple and easy to print, it’s a no brainer.
Order large amounts:
Think about it in the eyes of a contractor; They wake up in the morning, brush their teeth and throw on some clothes. Wouldn’t it be a good idea to make sure those clothes, specifically the t-shirt and sweatshirt have some kind of advertisement printed on them? So contractors order t-shirts, hoodies and various other apparel screen printed with their logo and information on them. Now figure this contractor is the owner of the company and he has 15 employees working for him, he would of course want all 15 of these employees wearing the company branded uniforms. This way he just multiplied his exposure by 15 times! So suppose he now has to order at least one t-shirt and hoodie for every day of the week, time the 15 employees he has working for him – that’s over 200 pieces being printed!
The thing I love with contractors and owners of construction companies is how many times they come back and order from you. Why do I say this you may ask? Well the reason is because they fire and hire employees very frequently. Lets just say and employee received 7 hoodies and 7 t-shirts, but quit two weeks into working – you aren’t going to take his uniform back from him. In addition, think about how much dirt is going to be accumulated on the garments. The employees are dealing with construction materials on a daily basis and either dirty, or damage their uniforms pretty frequently. As a result the contractor tends to order uniforms pretty frequently.
Simple and easy designs:
We’ve screen printed t-shirts and other apparel for many contractors over the years and I can tell you that most of them are a pleasure to deal with, easy going and almost always choose a very basic design. Isn’t it every screen printers dream to have an order for 72-144 shirts with a front left chest and a full back using black ink? I’ve printed so many jobs where the shirts are safety green, or safety orange with black ink front and back. Another common color combination is navy colored t-shirts with white ink front and back, again very simple and easy to print, as you can see in the image to the right. Once in a while through, you will get the once customer who has a really nice and intricate design with 3-4 colors that need to be printed. I am not saying that’s a bad thing, god for bid we love every customer the same way, I am just pointing out that not all orders are as easy to print.
The Brooklyn t-shirt printing industry has vastly grown over the year and much of the business being distributed around the screen printing companies is coming from contractors, electricians, plumbers and exterminators. Screen Printing For Brooklyn Schools:
“School Spirit” apparel has become a staple to most schools located in Brooklyn. They promote unity amongst the student body and are a great
way for schools to raise funds. When is comes to creating school spirit wear you have to always be aware of one key component, Colors. School colors are what differentiate them from each other. The aesthetic for each school can vary from colorful mascots to single color phrases. School shirts are not limited to just Fundraising. There are various occasions when you can show School Spirit. Sports Teams and School Plays can benefit from a touch of unity.
As a Screen Printing company located in Brooklyn we have worked on a lot of School Spirit Designs. We have worked with Various Schools. Including P.S. 214, P.S. 236, I.S. 281 and Mark Twain Middle School to name a few. You will find no better loyalty in a client then working with schools.
The work we recently did for P.S. 214 involved Heather grey and Red Raglans. We did a matching red for the front and back. The front was the school name arched. With Raglans I find the arch effect helps to center the piece. If you were to do text straight then you would need to be
very conscience of placement. With the arched type you just have to center the top of the arch and you have the image perfectly centered.
The back of these raglans had each student’s name.
Now that winter is coming we have retired most of the t-shirts here in Brooklyn. Hoodies and Sweaters are increasing in demand. For P.S. 236 we have done for them a full graphic front. With Hoodies is is a good Idea to hit the white multiple times. This helps to keep the print smooth and remove any opacity. This design came out very smooth. You often see a large screen printing surge for T-shirts right as summer hits and then for Hoodies right around the beginning of fall. So if you stock-up you can plan for that. Some schools do prefer to use a scholarly approach to there “School Spirit”, we have worked with a few schools that like to parody popular designs.
For Mark Twain Middle School we did a design based off of a Popular Run DMC Shirt. The humor in this is that they used RUN CMD. Which if you are as digitally inclined you know is a computer command to bring up the coding menu. The staff had a blast with this one.
If you work for a school and looking for a t-shirt printing company in Brooklyn NYC, we’re here to help!
Screen Printing T-Shirts & Hoodies For Companies Around Brooklyn
Brooklyn is an interesting city, there is so much that goes on here and this is why we love that our screen printing shop is located in Brooklyn. Here at our screen printing shop we meet new people and print jobs for various businesses every day, and we love doing so! One of the best benefits to working in Brooklyn is the diversity of the companies we are able to work with, from contractors, to gyms to sports clubs. We have recently completed two jobs, which we are proud of, for the Aviator Sports Club and Harbor Fitness.
Aviator Sports Club is a complex located on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn New York that kids and adults come to play basketball, football, ice hockey, soccer and many other sports. They also have a youth camp during the summer and plenty of after school activities during the week. Growing up, I always wen to The Aviator, whether it was to play basketball, or just ice skate. Even my high school senior day trip started off at The Aviator, which was lots of fun with all of my classmates. The shirts and hoodies we screen printed for them are pretty basic and not what excited me, a logo in white ink on the left chest and a STAFF in block font screen printed on the back. What excited me was that I was able to work with a client that has been in my life since such a young age.
Harbor Fitness, on the other hand, is a gym with multiple locations all over Brooklyn. They have locations inPark Slope, Marine Park, Bay Ridge and Mill Basin and are the new leaders in the gym industry. They are celebrating their 25 year anniversary this year which calls for some new custom printed hoodies. We recently screen printed for them hoodies and sweatshirts with a cool 25 year anniversary Harbor Fitness logo on front and an American Flag/Barbell combination on back. As you can see in the image to the right, this is a pretty sweet hoodie and to be honest I would wear it myself. What’s cool about screen printing for Harbor Fitness is that they are located in Brooklyn and all of their merchandise reflects that. Just like our catchphrase is “Brooklyn Screen Printing” their’s is “Brooklyn’s Gym” – representing the Brooklyn borough.
We love to print new jobs and meet new clients day to day, so if you are from Brooklyn and searching online for “screen printing company near me“. Stop searching, you arrived to the right place. our friendly staff and experienced screen printers are here to get the job done for you in a timely manner. Customers service, high quality printing and quick turn around time is our priority!
The most common question and concern we get from our customers is “how do I know this wont come off in the wash?”, or “Please use the good ink, the last printer didn’t and the ink came off in the wash”. Little do they know, this has nothing to do with using good inks, bad ink or different brand inks. What they don’t know is the issue of ink peeling is off is directly related to how the garment is cured.
Curing inks is the process at which the plastisol ink, made of of PVC and plasticizer, is chemically bonded to the natural garment fibers. This process is also sometimes called fusion. The way to to cure inks is generally the same on almost all types of plastisol inks, heat the ink up (on all layers) to about 325-350 degrees Fahrenheit using a conveyor dryer. At this temperature a chemical reaction occurs which fuses, or bonds the ink into the fibers of the garments and permanently secures the ink onto the garments. Once this chemical reaction takes place and the ink is considered “cured” it would be nearly impossible for the ink to comes off in the wash, peel off or scratched off the shirt.
There are two major tests which most screen printers use in order to determine if plastisol ink is cured. The first and most common method used is what screen printers call the “stretch test”. The stretch test consists of the print-master running the shirt through the conveyor dryer and let them cool off for a bit. Once the shirt is cooled off the print-master stretches the fabric just enough so that the ink can stretch as well. If the ink cracks more than 20% it means that the ink is not cured and most defiantly will come off in the washing machine.
The second and least common test would be to run the shirt through a few washing machine cycles. Ink that is not cured will come off within the first 1-2 cycles, but if the ink stays on the shirt and does not crack – you are good to go.
When a customer orders his/her batch of customized garments, they always want to be assured that their money is not going to waste. Many times they ask about the ink coming off in the wash and it is smart to educate them and inform them of how you dry your shirts. Also it would be a good idea to show them samples of previous items printed which were put through multiple wash cycles and stretch tested. This will give them the reassurance needed to trust you as their local screen printing company.
